Who Is Alice?
I'm Alice. That’s me on the right. And that mop-topped beauty on the left is my wife, Katie. Living in California, we’ve always had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Camping is our favorite way to unplug and refuel our souls. As per the American way, we were used to appeasing ourselves with small doses: a weekend here, a week off there.
In 2011, that all changed when we fulfilled a decades-long dream by taking nine weeks off to travel around New Zealand. The research, planning, booking, and execution — we loved it all. It opened our eyes to a way of life outside society’s normal boxes. That’s why, in 2013, we took an even bigger leap by leaving our jobs altogether and traveling around the world. Ten months of living out of our backpacks, never regretting our choices (packing or otherwise).
Our round-the-world trip was life-altering in more ways than one. But perhaps the biggest way was how much it nurtured our love of hiking. Treks to Machu Picchu and across Patagonia had us craving more. Before long, we found ourselves planning our first long distance thru-hike: the Tahoe Rim Trail. It was challenging and painful at times, but it embodied everything we adore about the natural world and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
Who knows when the call to adventure will persuade us off the career track and back on the trail? Soon, we hope. In the meantime, we love revisiting our experiences on the road. These travel tales have never stopped feeding our minds and souls. It’s our wish that they feed yours as well.
